IF Chiropractors do not have the right to prescribe medicine within ten years the profession will be phased out. A chiropractor will be a cash basis doctor. The pt s and nurse practicianers will be billing and getting payed by insurance companies and 90% of the chiropractors will have been personally and financially devastated because they were followers of a cult like philosophy. Im 100 percent right in my assertion. Want to see the proof , just call an insurance company and ask them what their benefits are for medicine and physical therapy and you will see that they pay for md s and pts but chiropractors are out. So I guess its time for Gerald Clums friends to get a taxi license.

I for one agree with adding to the scope of practice. If you don't want to do it, don't. How I look at it as I am in the health business, not the just the adjusting business. I wish at times when a patient comes in with discogenic findins that I could prescribe a antinflammatory medication but cannot, so I send them to urgent care and they get a muscle relaxer instead. My point is that I am all for getting advanced credentials and putting the time in for it. Call it Advanced Physician training I don't care, just having the extra ability to handle difficult cases would be nice.

I'm really not surprised. After all, our chiropractic colleges are teaching almost everything but TIC. Those of us whose innate is tuned in will continue to walk and talk the talk. We must have schools that reflect the teachings of DD and BJ.

I saw one of our peers mention to another peer above that he needs to go back to school for other profession because he supports the idea of chiropractor able to prescribe some basic medication. Let me share my experience a bit more from my previous post. I love being a chiropractor. I mainly practice diversified and some Gunstead techniques. I love it when patient is making eurphoria sound loudly that could be heard to the front desk after I adjusted the upper cervical spine. Then there were times when the patients farted after I adjust the thoracic spine. We laughed and joked around. Then there are times that my patients told me I did a great job fixing the back and shoulder that have not been better over 10 years. But those times do not happen often. And when it happens, it is just a miracle. On a contrary, what happens to majority of the time when we don't experience such events or compliment? DD Palmer did spinal manipulation and one of his patient - Mr. Harvey was able to regain his hearing. It was just one incident out of millions. Back in those time, who would know what was the fact surrounding the circumstance. Was it just buzz creating event? If not, then DD Palm must have been Christ reincarnaged. Why not now that we hear story like that? How many years have passed by. How many people in the world got CMT. Why don't we hear such incident again? There are majority of patients that have neuromusculare problem that could be better helped with some prescriptions and adjustment from us at the same time. About 11 years ago when I was in my third year in Chiropractic school. One of my ear drum got blewn off from a classmate while we were in adjustment class. That perforation never has been fully healed. I plan to have it patch by my EENT that just had just operated my nose. I never look up to an MD like him before. I was alway skeptical and scare of surgery and worse since become a chiropractor. My nose surgery is not necessary but it would improve my quality of life to breath better and sleep better. I decided to do it because he is also a med professor at Havard Med School while working in the hospital. He did an outstanding job for the operation. He earns my trust. It was hallarious when I came across on my online reseach that there are chiropractors out there using balloon beads to fix deviated septum!!! My point is that Chiropractor can't fix anything. We need to accept the fact out there that in order to progress forward. We need to acknowledge others so that they can ackwoledge us. We need to respect other, so that they can respect us. We need to accept others so that they can accept us. The more we descriminate others, the more we isolate ourselve. I always picture myself of working as a team in health profession by able to refer and being referred but it seems like these 10 years, I have been isolated. New Mexico will pave a way for Chiropractors to be a team player - jointing the main force of medical profession. I may be suggested from my peer to go back to school to become other professional? Please do not ignore the fact that time and money do play a role in life. If I have time and money, I would not be working at this time as a chiropractor or going back to school for anything else. I will just enjoy my life to the fullest. It is sad an pathetic to see ads for marketing seminars. That means that majority of chiropractors do not have enough patients to keep practice running. Then there are ads of technique seminars of all kind, so which one work for patients? Then record keeping seminars, why the Board give us problem so much that we have to sit down and do more paper works rather than treating the patients? Whereas, other medical profession just write a few sentence and never get into trouble with their documentation. I want to inform our State Board Members that no matter how neat, how long each chiropractor's document, we will never gain respect from others. It is the quality of care and how we get along with other medical profession with an open mind that matter. If we can just accept that medication do work, then we may be accepted that chiropractic work. Afterall Newton's opposite force law is still at work on Earth. The more we push, the more we will being pushed at equal force. While eastern philosophy of the ying and yang which are law of opposite attraction need not to be ignored. Combination of different things work better than one. The combination of allopathic medicine and hollistic care is a true art of healing.

In addition, we should follow the New Mexico, why let our colleages go oversea for Med school to gain the DEA where NM can get it. Unversity of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic will start a Physcian Assistance program 2 years after Chiropractic school. Why they do that? why a physcian have to work under another physcian.

I have been a chiropractor for 10 years. Since I was in school, chiropractors have many adjustment techniques, and many ways of bizzare adjustment techniques coming out. In all, our profession lack of unity but full differences. There is alway internal warfare in Chiropractic profession. Let me share my experience a bit to all the peers here. I do not wish to gain simpathy, bring shame but to create awarness. I have been disrespected by medical doctor who sent my patient to PT when I referred my patient to that MD. I had people want to come to me for MVA treatment but their attorney told them to go to see a PT because PT is more acceptable in medical community, insurance industry and legal intity. Guess where the patient goes? PT. Then worse of all, my board accused me of overutilization where I treated patient about 2-3 months and my bill is about 1/4 of a PT's bill if they would have been treated for the same condition. Over utilization? People get subluxation the rest of their life with or without trauma. That is how I perceive/or make believe when I was in chiropractic school. And, as a matter of fact, there are conservative chiropractors who treat patient without injury forever and usually their practice is successful not because they do better than other chiropractors but because they are able to sell chiroprctic philosophy. And worse of all, my peers do bill review of my bill because the insurance companies hired them "independent medical examiner?". Most of the time, I got cut off about half of my bill and few of the time deny my bill totally. We deal with neuromuscular and subluxation most of the time. I was once believed that if we free the nerve irritation, then the muscle spasm will subside. Base on my experience for 10 years, most of the time it is not true at all. Too much adjustments lead to instability and guess what? More spasm. And, spinal manipulation without addressing the spasm and pain, will lead to more spasm and pain. This is when I refer my patients to see MD to get prescription for muscle relaxant or pain relievers. It is not good for both of us and the patient. You may lose patient because MD refer them to PT. And that same patient will never get the benefit of chiropractic treatment and will never seek chiropractor in the future. So, this is when I support that chiropractors may have choice of their own to prescribe basic medication along with chiropractic treatment. If we are not able to evlove through time, we will fall behind. I had been taught surgery is no good. But guess what, I had deviated septum. I just got surgery 3 weeks ago. I felt much better. The surgery went well. I breath better and sleep better. And all those time, I was loaded on Vicodin. Even with side effect, surgery will not be possible without anesthetic and pain reliever. But the outcome is what matter. So, why are we so stuck up by the idea of having minor issue of prescribe some basic medications over the big picture? I see no orthodentist who straightening teeth that never use medication or surgery. So why are we so stuck with the word "chiro - hand"? I applaud New Mexico State that is able to push through of having chiropractor able to prescribe some remedy. This is a big break through for our profession. We are still way behind PT who became a doctor without the need to get referral. What is next? PT will be able to do spinal manipulation. Then no patient will come to us anymore. Nurse becomes nurse practition. Dentist used to be called quack become well respect in the medical commmunity. Even accupuncturist is able to have job in the hospital. Why so few chiropractor able to get in the hospital? I know that we have been too much philosophical about DD Palmer BJ Palmer but do not forget that we have a big student loan hanging on our neck and family to feed. I am happy that some of our peers are very successful seeing hundreds patients a day just doing adjustment. But how many out there? I have heard of my classmates being a car saleman, going back to medical school, and some even being seen as criminal or quack. It is sad but true. I hope that when we have more options as our tools in treating patientts, give us some respect, and increase income if not to all chiropractors our there but to me or others who are more liberal in their choices of treating patients. Is coccygeal adjustment more acceptable? Is other technique that is so bizzare in chiropractic acceptable? Why not some medication that is already approved by the FDA? Animals are able to adapt in shape, texture and color in its environment. Why not us?

I read some very strange responses here such as "chiropractic was never about pushing pills." Some even reference BJ Palmer as expanding way beyond manipulation. Whatever the case, straight/hard-core chiropractors appear to treat chiropractic as a religion and claim it should remain pure to our founders, the Prophets! Let's get real here. Look in the Yellow pages under 'chiropractors.' What do you see? A laundry list of conditions they treat. No reference to 'subluxations' or philosphy--just conditions people need treated such as back pain, headaches, sciatica, etc. So what if some chiropractors want to use drugs/injections. If it is safe and effective, then why not? I for one do not bow down to any human founder. Let's move on and quit making chiropractic a religion. It's embarrassing.

If it is safe and effective, then why not? I for one do not bow down to any human founder. Let’s move on and quit making chiropractic a religion. It’s embarrassing.

As a profession we really do need to come together. The subluxation is the uniting force that many can agree upon. I would agree that interference between brain and body is what creates disease. If I have "stinking thinking" then that too is a subluxation because the thought pattern would interfere with innate's perfect wisdom.
